daCi - Dance and the Child International, Taiwan
STEPS Youth Dance Company (Perth) and Quantum Leap youth dance ensemble from QL2 Dance (Canberra) have been invited to perform in Taiwan at the Dance and the Child International (daCi) Conference in July 2012.
As part of this exciting opportunity they will present Scratch the Surface, a 20 minute work inspired and co-created by the 20 young dancers and facilitated by Artistic Directors Ruth Osborne (Quantum Leap), Alice Lee Holland (STEPS) and choreographer James O’Hara.
Scratch the Surface will represent both the surface – the dancers skill, discipline and commitment, along with what is underneath – their spirit, personality and individuality.
STEPS and QL2 will begin by working separately on shared tasks to generate individual sections of the work. They will communicate through Facebook and sharing video to exchange conceptual and movement ideas and come together in July at QL2 Dance in Canberra to work with James O’Hara in creating a final combined section, just prior to setting off for Taiwan.
Alice Lee Holland and Ruth Osborne will also be presenting a Lecture/Demonstration as leading facilitators of contemporary choreography for young people in Australia.
